Today we’ll meet Benjamin Krenke, the Senior Global Product Manager for Spectrum CE System.
Tell us a little bit about what your role is at Promega.
I am a Senior Global Product Manager in the Genetic Identity Team. I help ensure that products we launch are well supported by our sales, technical and operational teams. However, much of my time involves supporting new product development. I help incorporate both customer desires and overall business goals into the new solutions we create..
What does a typical day for you look like?
I get to work with lots of different groups, which ensures no day is the same. Some teams have very long timelines. Others are always working with immediate needs. Some days I feel a bit like a crossing guard, helping the right information get to where it needs to go. Other days call for pushing for something that is critical or rethinking something that isn’t quite right.
What motivates you to succeed?
I love the community we serve. It is such a satisfying feeling to see a project go from a belief that “labs might really like this” to customers adopting that new product and solving cases with it. I once had a customer say about a new kit, “it’s like you made this for me”. Having the design and execution of a product so directly connect with what someone at the bench needs is a driving goal.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I love meeting those who use our products in their labs and at conferences. It’s even better when I can introduce a “Promegan” to this great community.
Favorite show to binge watch?
I’ve binged more than I care to admit during the pandemic, from 1883 to Home Town to the latest Star Wars spin off. I’m easy to please. One of my continuing guilty pleasures is eating junk food and watching Roadkill with my oldest daughter.
Where do you want to travel to, but have never been?
I’ve been blessed with lots of great travel experiences through work and with family and friends. Still, Australia and Africa remain on my bucket list.
