Promega Global Forensic Training Labs

Empowering Science Through Hands-On Learning

Introduction

At Promega, we believe forensic science flourishes through hands-on experience and shared knowledge. Across our global training centers, we invite forensic scientists, academic partners, and commercial teams to immerse themselves in practical learning – boosting confidence, solving real-world problems, and deepening collaboration with local relevance and global perspective.

Promega UK: A Working Lab, Not Just a Showcase

Nikki Peake, UK Business Manager GI, Southampton, UK

In the UK, our forensic laboratory is fully equipped with Promega’s latest technology – from the complete GI workflow to Spectrum CE platforms – and serves as a real, functioning hub. Whether hosting Customer Experience Days or staff development sessions, the focus is on practical engagement. Scientists run their own samples, troubleshoot in real time, and exchange insights with our technical, commercial, and support teams.

Students and university collaborators also find a welcoming environment here. We regularly open our lab to learners and researchers, especially those without access to CE instruments.

Seeing students discover the possibilities of forensic science is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. At its core, the UK lab is about being useful: enabling solutions that work – through training, project support, or experimentation.

SAT Singapore: Bridging Regions, Building Futures

Fiona Chang, Sr. Applications Scientist, Singapore

As a regional hub, the Singapore Application and Training (SAT) Centre connects Southeast Asia and India with global forensic expertise. We hosted 17 master’s students from the National University of Singapore for a hands-on workshop on DNA analysis, illustrating our dedication to next-gen talent.

We also welcomed Dr. Masaki Hashiyada from Kansai Medical University for an exclusive workshop featuring the PowerPlex® 35GY and Spectrum CE Systems. Led by our regional training and scientific experts, this immersive event highlighted the power of international collaboration.

Most recently, our 4-day training for Southeast Asian and Indian channel partners (those are partners i.e. distributors who provide local support to forensic labs throughout the region) delivered deep, hands-on experience with our entire forensic DNA workflow – from DNA IQ™ extraction to capillary electrophoresis and analysis using GeneMarker® HID for Spectrum CE Systems software. These events reflect SAT-Singapore’s multi-tiered focus: building future talent, advancing expert collaboration, and strengthening regional infrastructure.

Promega Walldorf: STR Training with Depth and Dialogue

Agnieszka, Dobrogowski, Sr Product Manager Nucleic Acid Analysis & GI, Walldorf, Germany

In our Walldorf facility near Heidelberg, modern labs meet focused exchange. Since 2021, the training center has been equipped for high-level, application-based instruction. Lab Manager Hannah Buntz ensures each session – from basic introductions to advanced evaluations – runs smoothly and meaningfully.

Workshops here center around STR analysis using our 8-color kits (PowerPlex® 18E and 35GY Systems). Participants test performance with their own challenging samples and compare technologies side-by-side, analyzing data using GeneMarker® HID for Spectrum CE Systems software. This gives participants the chance to evaluate results in a workflow that reflects everyday forensic practice.

These hands-on experiences provide space for focused discussion, critical evaluation, and direct comparison of technologies.

Our team believes that new technologies don’t need to be adopted overnight but seeing them in action helps labs define their own path. And that’s exactly what Walldorf delivers: space to explore, reflect, and decide.

SAT Lyon: Empowering Partners and Progress

Stephen Lupton, EMEA Business Manager GI, Lyon, France

SAT Lyon is more than a European training center – it’s a launchpad for scientific success. Our team supports internal staff, distributors, and customers through hands-on, adaptable training in our fully equipped labs.

Sessions cover everything from Maxwell® automated extraction and Real-Time PCR with PowerQuant® System, to STR amplification with Spectrum CE Systems. Trainees get to work directly with the tools they’ll use in their labs, both on-site and virtually.

What makes SAT Lyon exceptional is its seamless connection to Promega’s commercial teams. By combining assay support, compatibility testing, and real-world sample evaluation, we empower forensic labs across Europe to accelerate scientific progress and bring meaningful solutions to life.

Labs eager to explore 8-color technologies, often send their own samples to SAT Lyon to look at how PowerPlex® 18E or 35GY kits can give better data than 5 or 6 dye kits.

Whether supporting a local forensic lab or a multinational partner, SAT Lyon remains a vital force in Promega’s mission to enable smarter, more confident science.
