Today we’ll meet Eric Meyer, Program Specialist, Custom Order Department, Promega Corp. Madison, WI, USA
Tell us a little bit about what your role is at Promega.
I’m a Program Specialist within the Custom Products Team at BTC. My focus is the Instrument Program Management (IPM) area in which I support Promega’s large instrument portfolio. The large instruments include the Spectrum CE System, Spectrum Compact CE System, Maxprep® Liquid Handler, and the GloMax® Galaxy Bioluminescence Imager. I work directly with our sales teams and customers to manage large instrument quotes and orders, plan the specialized white glove delivery service, and coordinate the on-site installations and trainings at our customers’ facilities. I work very closely with various internal teams on each large instrument placement, which include Instrument Service & Support (ISS), Standard Solutions, Genetic Identity, Distribution Resource Planning (DRP), and the Promega Branches across the globe.
What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of having a positive mindset each day I come to work. A positive mindset can have such a large impact on how I interact with my colleagues and customers. Yes, there are many factors that can impact how I can feel each day, but when I’m interacting with customers, I need to be the best version of myself to ensure they have a world class experience while working with Promega. If I can make someone smile each day, that is a nice bonus too
What does a typical work day for you look like?
Each day in the IPM world is a little different, but that is why I like it. When I’m working on a large instrument order, I will communicate with our customer and internal teams (e.g., Instrument Service & Support and Standard Solutions) to coordinate the delivery, installation, and training of the large instrument being purchased. Other times, I will support Promega’s Branches with any questions they might have related to their specific large instrument needs, assist the NAB and GI sales team with large instrument quoting, utilize our SAP system to monitor instrument and instrument consumable inventory, and track global instrument sales orders for record keeping purposes.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite part of my job is interacting with our customers and helping bring Promega instruments into their labs. I know firsthand how much effort it can take for customers to secure approval and funding for large assets like instrumentation. So, when we receive a large instrument order, I’m fully committed to providing a positive and seamless experience. Promega’s instruments and chemistries can have a real impact on our customers’ work and that motivates me to give my best each and every day.
How would your teammates describe you in three words?
My teammates would describe me as kind, dedicated, and funny.
Where do you want to travel to, but have never been?
I’d have to say, Norway.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I think Telekinesis would be cool!
Star Wars or Star Trek, or Neither?
I’m totally a Star Wars nerd! It all started when I was a kid. My dad had the original trilogy on VHS and I always got excited when we’d watch them.
What’s your dream vacation look like?
Nowadays, I’d have to say a vacation in the middle of nowhere is my dream vacation. Whether it’s a National Park or a rustic campsite, exploring the natural beauty of the world with my family makes me the happiest.
If your life had a soundtrack, what song would play during the opening credits?
To be honest, it’s “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. Not joking! I do my best to shake off all the bad stuff of the world to stay positive. Got to keep the positive vibes flowing!
