Importing TPD Data for Analysis in TPD Kinetic App
These instructions explain how to import data into the TPD Kinetic App when using a non-Promega plate reader or a GloMax® instrument that is not connected to ProNect®.
Read This First
Files can be imported at two steps in the TPD Setup workflow:
- The Source Data step (your time course read results)
- The Normalization step (when using a single separate pre-read result as your normalization data)
Your TPD data is required to have the following number of iterations to be imported:
- Source data must contain at least 50 completed iterations.
- Normalization data must contain only 1 completed iteration.
Pro Tip: Connecting your GloMax® instrument to ProNect® automates the transfer of data to the TPD Kinetic App. Click here for instructions for connecting your GloMax® Discover or Explorer®.
Instructions for non-Promega plate readers
Step 2: Enter Your Data
Open the downloaded Excel template and enter the kinetic read data results in the appropriate columns.
To ensure your file imports successfully, follow these guidelines:
- When importing source data, your file must contain at least 50 completed iterations; files with fewer iterations will not be accepted.
- When importing data for normalization, your file must contain only 1 iteration.
Pro Tip: The file used for source data can be modified to include only the iteration intended for normalization.
- Enter time in minutes for each iteration.
- Use numeric values only (decimals allowed) in the TimeInMinutes column.
- Use one column per well (e.g., well A1 uses Column C, well A2 uses Column D, etc.).
- Enter luminescence values as plain numbers; do not use commas or text (e.g., enter 1000000, not 1,000,000 or 1M).
Pro Tip: Before saving, double-check that all values are present and correctly formatted - especially when importing data from a GloMax® or other plate reader.
Automate Your Data Transfer from non-Promega plate readers
BMG Labtech CLARIOstar
To help you streamline things, our team has created a prompt to automate the conversion of raw read data (.csv) from BMG Labtech CLARIOstar® plate readers to the TPD Kinetic import template format.
Note: The template is an Excel file that contains macros. Macros are often disabled / blocked as a security measure by your IT department. In this case you will get a warning message when you open the file. You can refer to these instructions from Microsoft® to unblock the macros in this file.

Blank Template
Excel import template with headers for iterations, time, and all 96 well positions.

Completed Template
Correctly formatted import file with data filled in. All values are numeric; iterations and times are present.

Step 3: Save and Import Your Data
Once you have filled in the template:
- Save your file in Excel (.xlsx) format.
- Return to the TPD App and click the Import button.
- When the file browser opens, navigate to your saved file and select it for upload.
Instructions for Promega GloMax® instruments not connected to ProNect®
There are two (2) methods for importing data from a GloMax® not connected to ProNect®:
1. Follow the steps in the previous Instructions to use the data import template.
OR
2. Follow the steps below to export the desired Results file(s) from GloMax® and then import the required .json file(s).
Step 1: Export Results JSON File(s) from your GloMax® Discover or Explorer
Read This First:
Your instrument must have GloMax® Software v4.2 and higher to export the .json file required for import to the TPD Kinetic app. For more information on updating your GloMax® software visit: Software & Firmware.
Your GloMax® can export Results in .csv, .raw, .pdf and .xlsx file formats. The file types exported are selectable in the Export Settings menu within the GloMax® software.
The required .json file is only exported when you have the .raw file type checked in the GloMax® Export Settings. For more information please see the GloMax® Owners Manual.
Instructions for exporting from GloMax®:
From the Home screen, touch the Results button.
On the left side of the Results, Templates and Analyses screen, touch the Results button to access the list of Results for export.
Check the box on the right side for the item(s) that you wish to export.
Touch the Export button to export the selected item(s).
Step 2: Import the .json file
- Open the TPD Kinetic App.
- Select Setup.
- At the Source Data setup step click on the Import button.
- Select the .json file you want to use as your Source Data and click Open.
- At the Normalization setup step select Pre-read Plate then click on the Import button. (only if using a separate plate read for normalization)
- Select the .json file you wish to use for Normalization and click Open.
- That's it you are ready to proceed to the Data Check step in the TPD Kinetic app workflow.
Troubleshooting
If your import fails, it could be due to:
- Fewer than 50 iterations for source data.
- More than 1 iteration for normalization.
- Non-numeric values in required fields.
- Missing well data.
- Cells filled outside the template bounds (columns A-CT).
