Promega wants to be your partner. On this page you can get to know us better!

Here, you will find interesting news about Promega, who joined and will support you in the future in your lab, and what Promega is doing as a company?

Is there anything in particular you want to know about us? Please feel free and ask!

Today, we’ll meet Jessi Sim, a Genetic Identity Technical Support and Training Manager based in Australia.

Tell us a little bit about what your role is at Promega.

I am a Support and Training Manager at Promega, covering the Asia Pacific region. I provide technical support to our branches, distributors, and users of our Genetic Identity workflow solutions as well as in non-forensic STR applications. Another aspect of my role is in providing training, which can range from technical or sales for internal branch colleagues, to working with them to conduct workshops at various regional forensic laboratories. In addition, I also occasionally deliver presentations on our turnkey solutions at forensic meetings and conferences.

What have you been doing to keep sane during the COVID pandemic?

Trying to tune out the less important news on COVID to minimize mental fatigue. With the children being at home, we have been doing a lot of baking and cooking together which is a lot of fun and mess! We have also been going for long bushwalks as our national parks remain open – sunshine, fresh air and being in nature does wonders for the body and mind.

What motivates you to succeed?

Knowing what I am doing helps people (in a little way) continue to achieve their goals or mitigate their frustrations (when things don’t work!)

What does a typical day for you look like?

Mornings are typically very hectic, preparing breakfast and lunches (school) for the kiddos and ensuring they leave the house on time for school. Then I get some me time to have a quick breakfast before turning on my computer to start work for the day. Throughout the day I will hover between emails and skype text/calls. Lunch is usually with my mum as she pops over to cook dinner for our family – we are blessed in this way! I try to squeeze in some form of exercise during the evenings, either on the treadmill or walking to the stores/park. If I’m lucky, there are no school dramas and I get to settle in early for the night.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

The process of troubleshooting! Sometimes the answer is just right there but often it involves working as a team (with the user and other departments at Promega) to get to the root cause of the problem. It is very fulfilling to be able to resolve issues and knowing that users can continue with their work.

What’s your favorite book and why?

I do not have the attention span to complete a book and if I do actually read one, I start off with the first two chapters and skip to the final chapter. I do however enjoy reading magazines and one of my fav. is Reader’s Digest- especially the sections on “Laughter The Best Medicine” and “Life’s Like That”, has never failed to make me LOL!

Favorite TV show to binge watch?

The American sitcom “FRIENDS”. Phoebe – oh man, she’s hilarious!

Name two songs that would be on the soundtrack of your life.

The Moon Represents My Heart (月亮代表我的心) - Teresa Teng Let It Be – The Beatles

What is your favorite sport to watch?
