Welcome

Dear Scientists,
Doesn’t it feel as if the year just flew by? Wasn’t it just summer and now we already have to think about Christmas presents…
Many of you have attended the ISFG meeting which took place in Washington D.C earlier this autumn. Wasn’t it great to finally meet again in person? I truly hope that we can continue with personal meetings—so have a look at the meetings for 2023 and be sure to save the dates in your calendars.
Additionally, you can read about the very first 8-dye STR multiplex on the market – the PowerPlex® 35 GY System! This kit combines autosomal and Y STRs to provide more information from your sample. The kit can only be run on our Spectrum CE System—the first CE analyzer on the market where you can use major commercially available kits, as well as our 8-dye PowerPlex® kits! We’re proud to offer the forensics community a strong alternative for capillary electrophoresis analyzers.
Read the top reasons why GeneMarker® HID is a great software to use for your current STR kits as well as our new 8-dye systems.
Be sure to check out an article about what Race, Ethnicity, and Ancestry mean in Forensic Science. Bringing clarity to these issues will take time and involve a fundamental change in how we think about race.
And last but not least, enjoy the profile Stephen Lupton, the EMEA Business Manager, a key member of the Genetic Identity team at Promega.
Sadly, shortly after the ISFG meeting, Dr. Peter Schneider passed away. His endless motivation while dedicating his life to forensic sciences and advancing the field leaves behind a legacy of scientific contributions to our community. Thank you, Peter—may you rest in peace.
I hope this issue inspires you to submit your own idea for an article. We love showcasing the hard work being done in forensic laboratories around the globe. Send me an email at jessi.sim@promega.com, and we’ll get you signed up for our next issue!
Wishing you continued success in your work,
Jessi Sim
